We are going to try it again for fireflies! I went last night as part of the lottery, and even though it was raining, the synchronous fireflies were pretty decent.  I think they may be better this weekend.  We will try to organize carpooling to limit vehicles in Elkmont because I think there will be a lot of folks there.  There are many places to photograph though - the cemetery, Jake's Creek Trail, Little River Trail and more.

You will need a standard lens 24-70 or better yet a 50 mm with a low F stop, plus a tripod.  If you have a red head lamp bring it.  Regular flashlights are a bad idea. Honestly, I hate the red ones too.  Bring a sandwich and snacks to eat in the parking area.  Also, bring drinks to stay hydrated.  More details once you register.
