August 2024 SANP Photo Challenge

  • 08/03/2024
  • 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • UT Gardens Knoxville, 2518 Jacob Dr, Knoxville, TN 37996, on 3 August 2024 from 8 am until 1 pm. All photographs must be made during this time frame while the photographer is standing inside the UT Gardens boundary.

  • Only SANP club members may register.

Maximum Number of Participants (5 minimum for judging): No maximum.

Purpose of this Challenge:   UT Gardens provides a variety of photographic subjects that includes flowers, plant closeups, landscapes, and travel-related scenes. Please pay attention to the “Equipment Specifications” below, since they are different for this Challenge. Only a narrow range of lens focal lengths will be accepted for entries. The focal length that appears on the photo’s metadata is what will be used to determine acceptance. This is being done to challenge the photographer to look for compositions using a lens within the focal length range of 50 mm to 85 mm. Tripods and camera supports WILL NOT be allowed in an effort to encourage spontaneous camera positions and paying attention to camera settings. Flashes or other supplemental lights are allowed to aid photographing while hand holding the camera. Paying attention to lighting, depth of field, and shutter speed will allow the photographer to create images with unique attributes that will stand out from other photos made during the Challenge.

Challenge Procedure:  You must register for this challenge if you want to submit images for judging. You will receive a registration confirmation. You may submit up to three images for judging, following the guidelines below for file naming, file size, and deadline. Before the images are posted to Zenfolio for judging, the Administrator will replace the Participant's name with an assigned Participant Number to help ensure image anonymity during the judging. If you have questions, contact Ron McConathy, at

If a Participant wants his/her images displayed on Zenfolio but not judged, that can be stated in the email with the submissions.

Note: Challenge image submissions will be posted (anonymously until after judging) in a Challenge Gallery on the SANP Zenfolio website accessible to the public; winners will be displayed on SANP social media, the SANP website, and in the SANP Newsletter.
