Meeting place: Cades Cove Ranger Kiosk, Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Time: 6:45 am

Registration available:  Beginning today

Who knows what is going on in Cades Cove?  I don't.  It has been a while since I have been.  This will be an adventure of exploring.  We may find something worthwhile and we may just be walking and walking and walking.

You may want a wide angle lens, a tripod and macro lens, or a telephoto.  You will have a chance to be as creative as possible.

Will we see birds, wildlife, insects?  Maybe.  Will we venture off the beaten path? Most definitely.  We might even venture where we have not been before.  Will bears be out? You never know.

We will be walking 3-5 miles or so through grass, weeds, and who knows what else. You might walk through water or wet grass.  Your feet may get wet.

We will enter the Loop Road when it opens and pick our adventure Saturday morning.

Yes, the start time is before sunrise.

It is important that we meet at the parking area by the Kiosk, as we will need to take as few cars as possible into the Loop area.  Everyone will need to be open to carpooling.

Location Description:

Cades Cove Loop Road and various areas off the road.  Remember you will need a parking pass or carpool with someone that has a parking pass.  You can purchase daily passes at Cades Cove Kiosk area. The annual pass at vistor centers or online.

What to bring:

  • Your favorite DSLR camera and lens. Extra batteries.
  • Bring appropriate weather gear.
  • Tripod might be useful .
  • Rain gear for yourself and a rain cover for your camera in case we have rain.
