Meeting place: Cades Cove Ranger Kiosk, Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Time:  6:10 am

Registration available:  Beginning today

This is a walk through the fields. We may venture to one trail that we have not checked out. We will do some walking. What will you find?  Potentially anything from wet grass, spider webs, butterflies, birds, and whatever else may be out.  Total distance will vary as we will check out some areas that most do not, and other areas that are your typical tourist stops. The old style gladiolus may or may not be blooming. If they are we may check some of them out.  Come prepared for wet grass and walking a few miles at a reasonable pace.

Location Description:

Cades Cove Loop Road and various areas off the road.

Learning opportunities:

This will give you a chance to explore the area without all the traffic.  Bring your short lens and your long lens.  A tripod may be handy for some of the stops.  You should get a chance to explore with some things you usually do not get a chance.

Bob Tatum got to enjoy sharing the walk with a mama and her cubs last week.  Maybe we will be lucky.

What to bring:

  • Your favorite DSLR camera and lens. Extra batteries.
  • Bring appropriate weather gear.
  • Tripod can be useful .
  • Rain gear for yourself and a rain cover for your camera in case we have rain.

Remember to dress for the weather.  Waterproof foot gear might be useful with recent rain it could be muddy in some areas.

Driving directions:  Cades Cove Ranger Kiosk, Great Smoky Mountains National Park
