Join us for a wildflower photography hike at Frozen Head State Park and Natural Area on April 16th. We will be hiking the Panther Branch trail. In early April wildflowers bloom all along this trail. We will hike past DeBord Falls so there will be an opportunity for waterfall photography as well.

Panther Branch is an easy-moderate difficulty trail, out and back, up to 4 miles round trip. Hike as far as you wish. Many of the best wildflower viewing locations are about 1.5 miles from the trailhead.  Many of the flowers are small, so the ability to get low to the ground is useful for optimal compositions. There is one unbridged stream crossing, but is usually easy to rock-hop across.

Gear: Any camera/lens, including cell phones may be used. Manual focus, a macro lens, or macro filters are useful. A tripod that can be set up a few inches above the ground is useful but not required for photographing wildflowers.  Handheld diffusers may also be useful in sunny conditions. A tripod and shutter release are needed for waterfall photography.

Other: Hiking attire is encouraged, including sturdy shoes. The trail can be muddy, rocky, and uneven in places. Hiking poles may be useful for some participants. Bring water, snacks, insect repellant, sunscreen, and a wildflower field guide (if desired).

Note: There is spotty cell phone reception on trail.

There is no limit on registrations for this event, but parking at the trailhead is limited. Carpooling is encouraged.
