SANP member Kristina Plaas, Volunteer-in-Park for Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway, will be the presenter for our Zoom meeting on April 27. She will be sharing her experiences and insight as a volunteer photographer for Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Her presentation, entitled “Interpretive Photography in America’s National Parks,” explores the many ways photography contributes to the mission and operations of the National Park Service.

Interpretation, she says, is a communication process that forges emotional and intellectual connections between visitors and the natural and cultural resources of America’s National Parks. Photography is an important tool in this communication process, providing visual images for digital and print media. As an interpretive photographer, Kristina approaches the visual landscape with the visitor in mind, asking questions such as "What story do I want to convey?" "What emotion do I wish to share? What connection am I trying to make between the park and the people that visit?" It’s a unique way of communicating through the lens.

Join us on April 27 for her program, which begins just after the business meeting. The Zoom link will be emailed to members (no need to register) and guests (please register) on Sunday, April 25.
